US Port Congestion Update

The Congestion issues plaguing the USWC have continued to worsen by work slowdowns, chassis shortages and other disruptions in cargo movements at the US West Coast ports.

The Congestion issues plaguing the USWC have continued to worsen by work slowdowns, chassis shortages and other disruptions in cargo movements at the US West Coast ports.

The cost of trucking has risen sharply as a result as they are currently experiencing long waiting times and dry run charges caused by the port congestion.

LCL congestion surcharge to USD 6.00w/m will be effective 9th February 2015. Other FCL charges may also follow.

Hopefully the situation at the West Coast Ports will be resolved soon in which case we will remove this charge.

The overall effect however remains a problem with port rotations of ships now on the last in first out basis which is causing long delays to Cargo that entered the port earlier, BTi will continue to monitor the situation and send updates as they are available, however in the meantime if you have any concerns please contact your local representative.
